Runs Like a Deere? Nope,

my john deere ran for 60 seconds then died, lets see what it takes to fix it and why it happened.

The module you replaced was just a relay module, no computer parts per se. (Its the interlock module) Its full of relays to take the inputs (safeties) and control the outputs (fuel flow / PTO etc). Its then fully potted in epoxy to keep moisture out.

Your videos have got me addicted to small engines. Started watching like 2 weeks ago and since I got my dads JD L120 running after a few years, got a free MTD 300E that had a bad needle. And got a toro blade override for 40$ and the bolt that holds the clutch on needed tightened.

One thing I'm having a problem with is finding rebuild kits for old carbs, specifically old Homelite chainsaw walbro carb rebuild kits. Where and how do you source said kits? Also when are you gonna tear down the motor on the VW Bus that you were driving back from Florida lol. I'm curious to know if re torquing the head would solve the issue.

This is why some get rid of a John Deere, works one year, then next won't start. Either safety switches, rodents chewing wiring or broken wire. I repaired a John Deere zero turn and ignition switch was one issue, the wire for the carburetor solenoid when checking with ohm meter checked good, but the female ends inside of plug at carburetor solenoid had deteriorated and were not making good contact. A $7 wire caused a over $3000 mower to not work. Spent numerous hours checking wiring. Luckily the wire had a plug in connector at engine, then a ground wire that bolted to engine and the plug at carburetor. Simple to replace. This was a green wire with a male plug in at engine, then it ran to plug-in at carburetor that had the black ground wire from plug-in to ground screw.

I just purchased a house. The owners left a bunch of things there. One was a riding lawn mower. So I'm wondering if that thing's going to run. There is a push mower there. I put gas in the tank, primed it and it started on the first pull.

  69. RegularPit

    2 månader sedan

I got a Mower that's 20 years old and was parked and left without gas so far no problems except the choke has to be about 75% out for to run but choking it fully doesn't help it start but minutely. I think the choke cable is partially broke but I'm not sure what it is. I got it for free because a couples was moving to Tennessee and we are a friend so they gave it to us before moving.

    2 månader sedan

Ah the crappy "interlock module".. sometimes just cleaning the contacts out with parts cleaner as well as the connector will revive them, even when they don't look that bad.. JD fill them with some kind of dielectric grease but it often misses pins or the grease itself holds conductive crap that makes its way into the connectors. I'd have to get hold of the service manual / wiring diagram but if you are adventurous you can probably remove that module entirely AND keep all the safety stuff but substituting it for a couple of relays like on the earlier models of these tractors. Depending on what you have on hand it might not be cheaper if you want to use decent relays and connectors etc. You can of course bypass it totally and just feed power to the pto section but I wouldn't advise as safety stuff helps even experienced users when they have a brain fart moment.

It may be that the kill switch applies a shorted turn of wire around the coil to kill spark. Fun fact, those inductive loops recessed into the tarmac at traffic lights and traffic counters can be activated by draping about 4 metres of wire over the loop and shorting the two ends together. Not that any of us will be playing in the road mind.
