went on a pick for some boating items, ( future video) and ended up with this thought to be no good antique outboard motor, its had a tuff life but lets see if we can still save it?

You put the o-ring on almost exactly like I was thinking except I was thinking put the screws through until almost tight then put the o-ring around the split. Then completely remove and replace each screw so it’s behind them. Good job rebuilding what you didn’t have parts for.

Love seeing this type of video. I had done a similar motor rescue on a 1954 Montgomery Ward Sea King. My farther in-law referred to it as an anchor for a couple of decades as it sat in the coner of his garage. It had a plate and reed setup for a carburetor. Once running it is a real science to adjust advance and air mixture. It was great fun. Please keep up the great videos on all your projects

I thought that motor was so cool I had to look online for hours to find out about them. There isn't tons of information about them but I found out enough, I believe your motor is an OB-410 made from 1940 to 1947 2.5HP. There are exploded parts diagrams, gasket tracings and service info. Like point gap .020, oil straight 30W or 40W non-detergent, changed every 20 hours. Spark plug Champion, listed both J8 and J8C some sites listed one or the other or both. Is one of the tubes, drive or exhaust, brass? Found many mentions that at least one and sometimes both are. Makes sense since part of the marketing for the air cooled 4-stroke motors was resistance to salt water. All the ones I saw only had one brass tube and sure looked sweetall buffed out. There are also twin cylinders of these motors. They also said is tilted up on the boat or when off the boat the motor should be turned to the side, but I don't remember which side, but it's the side that keeps the oil where it belongs. For the high speed jet instead of going lean for highest speed then a bit rich, the say to go lean then rich until the engine note breaks? then 1/8 to 1/4 turn lean. I'm not sure what that means, but ok. lol Also max engine speed is 3000 RPM. To adjust (?change propeller?) There are a few videos on SE-one of these motors idleing so slow and smooth it seems unnatural, being accustomed only 2-stroke outboards. Thanks for another interesting video.
